| BILOXI - GULFPORT |
| We have chosen the greater Biloxi-Gulfport area for the featured destination for two main reasons. During this holiday season we would normally have chosen a more "holiday themed" destination, but the gulf coast area needs the holiday attention, compassion and the holiday business! The other reason is that rebuilding, and the excitement that is coming with it! We are sure that most everyone has heard about hurricane Katrina. It devastated the Ms. Gulf Coast and almost it's entire economy, because that economy depends so heavily on tourism. The coast was a booming area with casinos, seaside restaurants, antebellum homes, deep sea fishing, marinas and all the other things the coast has to offer. Now, a little over a year after the natural catastrophe, the coast IS making a comeback. We sent requests to the 4 major players in the casino with lodging on the coast. Two answered and were reviewed for accessibility, available accommodations, and food! The ISLAND VIEW CASINO in Gulfport, and the GRAND CASINO SPA AND RESORT in Biloxi. Both offer true roll in showers, accessible rooms, accessible dining and gaming. The Grand boasts LB's steakhouse and a Starbucks. The Island View has a wonderful buffet, and Emeril Lagasse is opening a restaurant there this spring!! The Beau Rivage is also fully open, as is the IP, Isle of Capri, Treasure Bay, Boomtown casino. We are familiar with the area, and will not deceive you by trying to tell you that it is anywhere near back to the level before the hurricane. It is, however, doing a great job in getting there! With 4 world class restaurants and 9 casinos already opened, and more on the way, the beach cleaned up, and the marinas well into rebuilding...the coast is returning to a world class destination. It will take years for full recovery, but why wait? The prices are unbeatable, the crowds are not at huge levels like they will be in the summer of 2007, and there are new happenings everyday! Why not take a close by weekend to the coast and accomplish two things... HAVE FUN and SUPPORT the area! |
